Waking Up A 1990 Chevy 454 SS Big Block MuscleTrux Wars Part 2 - Trucks! S10, E2

Bowtie boy Ryan's got a big play for using big displacement to make big power for his entry in our first MuscleTrux series match up. Kevin's not allowed in the shop as Ryan's adding new heads, a new valve train, a pro-flo EFI throttle body, and intake to his 454 to wake up the potential in this big V-8.
Follow the match up in the MuscleTrux Wars playlist:

  • I drove a Ford Ranger until it blew its wad at 335,000. “Well used” maybe, but definitely not “abused”. Just because it has high miles doesn’t mean abuse. Some people have to drive the same vehicle and can’t just get a low miles vehicle whenever the miles get high. 🤦🏼‍♂️

  • Small port heads and a low riser intake. I think we can see why it blows the OEM tires away. One way to solve that is a numerically lower rear axle or a much taller tire--better MPG and top speed. But a cam that lowers the final compression ratio could also help that pesky launch issue and keep the MPG and cruising RPM the same.

  • I will never forget my first shift kit install. It was on a turbo 400. I was 15. My dad told me to read the instructions clearly and use a torque wrench. He didn't tell me which one so I used the half inch drive. Ya, I snapped off a few bolts inside. 100ft lbs is a lot different than 100 inch lbs. I put it back together (with the snapped off bolts) Luckily it worked ok. I never said a word to my dad about it. I'm sure he would of called me an idiot and made me drill out the bolts I snapped. I never made that mistake again.

  • half way in he removed rear main cap to install a new seal and NEVER even fucking LOOKED at the bearing surface or show us ?? apparently they could not get a bearing company to sponsor them and donate a free set of bearings so they said fuck it and left the old ones in ? This fucking show might pull in 50 thousand in revenue every episode and every time it airs from commercials but unless they get sponsored parts ?? waiting to watch the end and see the cheap fuckers install arp pan bolt kit and chrome dress up oil pan for an engine they never even bothered to buy rings and bearings for ? Thing I hate most about these shows is they are designed to sell you shit you dont need and perfom unneeded upgrades and generally spend a fuck ton of money where its not needed. seen an episode they tossed 7 thousand dollars into a stroker 305 to make less HP then a stock junkyard $300 350 chevy and they were proud of it ... not saying they are idiots saying they are puppets and spreading bullshit tech

We're forced to rate the over all video as a 7.5 without showing the end result!! Not cool!! There's no point watching if we can't see the end results on the dino or the street!! :-( We're just a couple of people, but it's difficult to remain as a subscriber for this important reason!!

  • If they're smart, they'll add a stroker kit. Costs about the same as a stock rebuild kit, as it does to turn it into a 489. Should easily make 600hp as a 489, 650 isn't a reach either. They got 620hp out of a 454 on Engine Masters with Edelbrock XT heads and a solid roller cam.
