Why are you trying comparing apples and bananas. Well i guess you need to sell your stuff and YT hours for your income. Do yourself a favor and delete this post.

  • I believe it's 5U high, not 4U? anyway, indeed it's for audio and video professionals, most of the gear needed is within desk distance (even when it's usb or other "long-connected" peripherial), so having PC mounted there too shall become standard (hence why iMacs and MacMinis are being used on desks directly usually); I would really like to see a generic PC "counterpart" for such sleek rackmount case, including the silent high perf. fans, but so far there's nothing on the market as far as I know...

  • 19'' units are not necessary made for server... This one is the best plateform for Avid ProTools Ultimate. In studio environment, we need 19'' units. Outboard gear as tube preamplifiers, optic compressors, parametric EQs, digital reverbs, analog echoes, etc. every units are made in 19'' boxes. When it's not 19'' in a studio... it's a PAIN ! The computer is now the recorder unit. It must be the most silent as possible. And to put it in a silent box... you need a 19'' rack unit ! This monster is made to run audio DSP cards like this and others racks for the storage like this And about the RAM you need, when we are talking about audio production... well, something around 300Go is OK, yep. With 128, I can't work with my Superior Drummer, that's not enough. So, the Mac Pro Rack is made for the big guys.

  • DERRRRR, ITS NOT A SERVER ,,,, ITS JUST A SIMPLE Mac Pro sideways for studios racks DERRRRRR plain and simple for MASTERS of FINAL CUT PRO X, LOGIC or MOTION only running on MACOS..... why would you want to compare it with a PC server ,,, WHY !!! makes no sense at all hahahahaha

  • This hurts hearing linus talking about audio. Whist it is technically correct, its still fundamentally wrong. Typically the professional software used is Pro Tools and Ableton Live, both of which are both windows and mac complaint. Also most interfaces are cross compatible. The only real advantage that Apple owns Logic, but that starts in "Goo Goo" mode. Just the opinion of an audio engineer

  • This computer isn't targeted at data centres or server use at all, it's targeted at creative professionals in the film, tv, and music industries. Industries where you often have a rack in your studio or edit suite. For us this is the perfect form-factor. Once again Linus doesn't understand the target consumer because he seems to think that if it's not a gaming PC or a server in a data centre it's apparently not a real thing. This is just as laughable as his Red Epic review.

  • It is a rackmount workstation. Every large recording studio or video post production house will run one of these - anybody with a bunch of computer connected rackmount gear. Particularly anybody who tours their equipment. Every single professional mac has had a third party rackmount cage, it's perfectly reasonable to build a rackmount box.

  • Great vid but the 11:30 about mac for music triggered me xd: First is that you compared hardware to OS here what makes no sense at all xd. Forgive me, but that was completely unprofessional. You can install MacOs on any x86. You can install FreeBSD or windows on Mac etc. I'm both programmer and musician. There is really nothing better about macs for music. There is a lot stronger hardware than mac on market. You always use external sound interface, so don't listen to anyone who talks about latency and use USB 2.0 for music. PCI-E is da wae, no matter what OS. All music software/tools are avaible on 3 most popular OS (win, mac, lin), and all of these OS you can install on every x86/x64 architecture (Intel, AMD). Macs are better for graphics becouse of retina screens. These screens are for graphicians like studio monitors for musicians. Once again, how could you compare latency between Mac Pro(hardware) and Windows(software)?? You know it is just a bs ;). Cheers :).

  • There’s some misinformation here....I’m an audio guy so I’ll correct. Mac OS’s ability to do live playback of multitrack audio is really no different than Windows at this point. Microsoft fixed their audio with Vista. Anyway, most people in “pro” environments use DSPs anyway, which is an external piece of hardware that processes all of the audio and software effects, plugins, etc. So at the end of the day wether you use Windows or Mac it’s not really going to matter. Logic does have a nice sound library but keep in mind the original version of Logic supported support was only removed later on after the original software devs behind Logic sold it to Apple! Tl;dr, there are many other competing softwares that have just as many (or in some cases more!) virtual instruments that Logic has and can run on Windows. People who use ProTools in pro environments tend to use Windows - why? Because Apple is always updating their OS and Avid takes forever to update their software. Older versions of ProTools run fine on Windows 10, where as to this day as I’m writing this comment, ProTools doesn’t even support the latest version of OS X (10.15 Catalina) period! There’s really no reason to purchase a Mac Pro just to get logic either. I run Logic in a Mac runs perfectly fine. 64GB of RAM is more than enough, and it barely puts a dent in the i7 processor that comes with the high end Mac mini, even a huge project with 50+ tracks.

  • Data center????!?!? OF COURSE is is not for a data center. I worked in television for 30 years. This is designed to fit into a rack that is in a cooled closet and run Final Cut Pro, just like the rack-mounted systems I worked on with the Avid Media Composer. If you are in a ProRes workflow, editing video/film, this rackmount Mac Pro means you do not have to get a third-party device to rack mount the other Mac Pro. So, it is not just for audio. It is also for video.

  • So working as a theatre technician, rack-mounted macs are so much easier to work with, as you can basically keep everything together and mostly cabled up so it is just a handful of cables every time you have to move it somewhere. Most of the industry uses a program called Qlab that only runs on Mac.
