Teen Says Deputy Threatened to Shoot Him for Leaving School

Authorities are investigating body camera video from a deputy in Florida in which he is heard threatening to shoot a 17-year-old high school student attempting to leave campus. The confrontation happened on the grounds of River Ridge High School in New Port Richey. • So if a man comes to school with a gun and threatens to kill kids they'll most likely be killed on site by police. Yet they hire a police man who is willing to kill kids *with no legitimate reasoning???* How T F does that make any sense?!

  • But if the LEO have suspicion he's truant, then he has every right to detain the subject for further investigating. Continuing to drive your vehicle towards an LEO is ILLEGAL and considered assault even if not continued. Could the LEO have verbally handled this, YES, but is the Deputy in the wrong, no really.

  • *The officer didn’t threaten to shoot him because he was leaving school, he was threatening to shoot him for running him over. There is a difference. And it is not the officers fault, it’s the school because they alerted the officer he was leaving even though the school was informed. Another instance about idiots being involved in the education system.*

  • From what I saw in the video, the officer seemed to not be informed from the office that the kid was leaving for an appointment. He did his job and didn't let students leave just because they wanted to(which is what he would have to assume without information otherwise, and being stationed at a high school he probably deals with it daily). The student got too close with his car and escalated the situation. The officer warned him not to get too close then overreacted and threatened to shoot instead of arrest/detain. It's not clear if the school expelled him because of him leaving or because of the police confrontation. It's also not clear if the student checked in with the office before leaving to make sure everything was squared away or if his mother had just called the office earlier and gave the info there. If it was the latter, then I can easily see some kind of miscommunication happening where that information was lost throughout that day, for example she might have called at a busy time and the office might have forgotten to write it down. Overall, the police I believe was NOT in the wrong. Threatening to shoot seems extreme but then again hitting someone with your car is extreme as well. He was making it very clear that the student NOT do that. I believe the culprit is a misscommunication or a mistake on the school office's part. Expulsion seems pretty radical if this was the only thing that caused it, but then again the student might have had other issues and this was just the last straw. Not enough info though.

    • Inside adition is only showing the part people want to c. The whole video is 4 mins long, they told the kid multiple times all he had to do was contact a adult to verify the appointment. Instead he keeps moving forwards with his wheels pointed at the cop, and whoever the lady was. In those situations that's how law enforcement is trained, and the mom would've filed a lawsuit if her son was so innocent by now.

  • Wait..... the kid was expelled and the security guy still has his job? Honestly I’m surprised parents didn’t pull their kids out of that school. I wouldn’t want my kid getting a gun pointed at him for something as small as this. Pointing a gun and making threats against the kids life cause he is leaving WITH PERMISSION is not even close to being justifiable.
