  • Just goes to show how over engineered American diesels are. If you did this to a European or Japanese truck it probably wouldn't last 5 minutes.

  • anyone saying " tone of more life sad " thats such a terrible engine, loud, inefficient, parts are obsolete nowdays and harder to find, so swapping this into another piece of machinery to have it then break down and not been able to find parts for it is a waste of time, good that thing is destroyed, as a better engine can be used

  • I’d have paid for the engine and shipping and most definitely your time for pulling it and putting in a crate. We are a custom shop. Hennessey Performance.

  • At first I thought this would be funny and the more I watched it was kind of sad. Someone in town has one of those same trucks with a big water tank on the back and now I want it.

  • Not a run away. A run away is when it is uncontrollable and the rotating assembly overspeeds causing major damage, most of the time immediately. This is just a waste. But good thing we live in a free country.

  • If you have to lock the racks at full fuel, it is not a runaway. A runaway is when you lose control of the throttle and the engine continues to accelerate with no ability to stop it other than cutting of air flow or fuel, no response to the throttle.

  • I wasn't surprised that it took that long. Back in the eighties I used to rebuild those engines. They were a sweet running engine oh, that one and the 6V 71. Those and the 855 Cummins were my favorite engines to work on. Naturally aspirated it isn't quite correct. Those old Detroit's had superchargers on them instead of turbos. Almost brings a tear to my eye to watch you blow one up on purpose. In the shop we had a piece of plywood always at hand whenever we started up one of those Detroit's after a rebuild, ready to stick it over the turbo inlet, close off the air supply, just in case that thing started to go. They were such high revving engines that I think you could make a good race truck with one of them old Detroit's
