Kiermaier is to blame for the out. If he stays in the box he gets hit by the pitch given the pitch location and it becomes bases loaded with 2 out. Runner on 1st also didn't run to 2nd when Margot stole home and he should've once Kershaw threw home.

Lmao, Kershaw stepped off the mound, that’s not a pitch anymore, if kiermaier stays and gets hit by Kershaw’s throw home it’s probably gonna be batter interference

Stop blaming Margot. His teammates didn't bring him home so he had to take a chance. He got on 3rd with 0 outs. Then Renfroe walked, then Wendle flied out and Adames struck out. So Margot actually waited for his teammates to get a hit and they didn't. Finally it was Kiermaier's turn, a left-handed batter, which gave Margot an opening to the plate. He had to take a chance, considering how bad the Rays are with runners on base (0.192). What nobody is mentioning is if Taylor caught the ball at 2nd, Margot would stay at 2nd instead of stealing 3rd too. Yes, that was Taylor, the same guy who bobbled the ball at the end of game 4 to give the Rays the win.

Regardless of what you think of the decision to try to steal home, it was close at the plate. A better-executed slide might have been called safe. I think he meant to lead the head-first slide with his right arm as a decoy, then pull it back while reaching in with his left, at the same time rolling his body toward first. I remember this being done a few times during the season, maybe by the Yankees recently, with success. I think with that move he might have been safe. But takes ridiculous presence of mind, and Margot was pumping with adrenaline...
MackVor 2 Monate
@AnaheimAngels24 Totally agree. I was wondering if Kershaw, obviously excited by the attempt and not wanting to balk, was playing it safe, with a high, hard throw that the catcher could handle, not wanting to throw it into the dirt, into the slide. But if he brings it down even a bit, it's not close.
MackVor 2 Monate
True, but to be fair, a bad throw home by Kersh is what made this play close. A decent throw and this play isn't even close.

I think he was out at 3rd and out at home. At 3rd his hand and body came off of the bag while the tag was touching him; so that's an out. The first time I watched the replays I though he was actually safe at home. It looked like his hand touched home plate before the tag touched his chest. But when I watched it again it looked like the tag actually touched his wrist before his hand reached the plate and before the tag to the chest.

I love the aggressiveness, especially since post-analytics baseball is a comparatively boring game. I'm rooting for the Dodgers (in particular, Kershaw) so I'm glad he's out, but this gives all those analytics guys who have zero cares about the aesthetics of the game more ammo to talk about why station-to-station baseball is better than having an aggressive running game.
mrmacrossVor 2 Monate
This is probably the best World Series in all recent years, atleast to me, can't really blame Margot on this entirely by the way, he was on third no outs, if you're going to blame someone blame adames for his lack of productive at bats in this entire postseason.
