    • Try, instead of having a capacitor bank, to put your capacitors spread along the coils / switches under the rail, that should help. The rabbit hole can go a lot deeper. The problem is not only the resistance of the wires but also their own inductance. Also, I do not know if you do, but try using dedicated mosfet drivers instead of microcontroller pins. The harder you switch them, the less energy is going to be wasted on heat. Don´t forget the flyback diodes!

  • I liked seeing the comparison of the Li pack and capacitor bank...I recently read some older discussion on endless sphere regarding capacitors for regen bicycle braking. The Endless Sphere consensus is that Li batteries handle the brief current spike fine on the scale of bicycles. It seems like the 8x3V cap bank is starting at 33% lower voltage than your 36?V Li pack. Without knowing how voltage is converted down to 16V, I wonder if two of the three Li packs would deliver more comparable power?

It is essentially a propeller with each blade doubled and connected / looped at the tips to avoid turbulence. The video on youtube is titled "Sharrow Propellers (2022) - Test Video" I would love to see your take on this and see what sort of results you get. It's a very interesting idea.

  • Great movie , but ....CO2 footprint ...You doing well reducing it by buying solars which creation makes a huge CO2 footprint....so that how eko logic works.....You reduce it to zero but amount of polution done by helping You get there - like Lion batteries and their CO2 footprint - far exedcs Your results in long life terms. Still eko business created by germans factories all over the world ( 4/5 china companies creating solar panels belongs to german owners ) is more bullshit in result than it looks . Sad but true. But luckily amount of CO2 in our atmosphere can`t affect global warming . Glass house gases doing it .But real reason of global warming is earth precesion and sun activity . Nice job in engeniering those . I liked it .

  • while not useful to you magnetic launcher, you should consider trying something like ardupilot with a simple automated glider foam plane with control surfaces that automatically stalls the plane after 10s. additional mass could be minimal. it will let it your example plane take off more smoothly and give a better visual performance of the rails/sleds acceleration. Garry GavanGarry GavanVor 16 Tage
  • I wonder. Not the first paragraph or second but the third. If you wire the coils like a magnetic shift register from very very old electronics you would get a flip flop effect without much penalty for complexity Still would have a penalty to complexity because you would have to delay the transfer till your hall effect switch gives the okay. I wonder how much power you could get out of coils arranged like that, where they would be acting as part of the control. That's a tricky question to answer but it might be worth while.

  • kinetic energy is 1/2 mv^2.... So adding similar energy at each coil would naturally result in a sqrt-shaped curve... (And for that to happen, each coil need to have more power, since it needs to add the energy in less time (which the rewinding would have helped for...)) If the coils can be set up in a way that there is no gap between one switching on and the previous one switching off, using a (largish) inductor to quickly force current through the next coil would be interesting... (It would limit the ramp-up of current towards the end of the rail though and leave large voltage spikes to deal with, especially at the end when all coils switch off)
