  • As someone who were raised by vegetarians and a life long vegetarian, I relate to this so much. It is much easier to be vegetarian now, and even vegan. However I developed a sensitivity to gluten so I have to be careful of my gluten intake. It is insanely difficult to eliminate completely gluten. It is very inconvenient. Add to that I am allergic to nuts (except almonds), so a lot of the cool vegan options are out for me, like vegan cheeses etc. So combine the two, and well I am trying my best. I do think it is important for people to cut their meat intake anyways. I have eaten meat on only 10 occasions in my life, some of them on purpose and some of them by accident. I don't think most people can say that.

  • I would be vegan if I lived in the States, too much fast food, and not so good cheese everywhere. I live in Italy. I am not givin up fish or mozzarella on my pizza or the ragú and never eating soy ice-cream! You know my statistical expectancy life? 85. My aunt is 101 and most of my relatives went well over 90. It's the Mediterranean diet baby ✌️

So they probably also don't know about KFC's very popular vegan chicken burger "The Imposter Burger" ? Paul G

The only way we get more people to give up meat is with empathic conversation and sharing our knowledge of the negative impacts of the meat industry, not badgering them or judging them until they become someone who hates all “annoying vegans”

Some folks I've heard do a vegetarian/vegan work week and then have their meat on sat or sun. If you don't want to fully commit to the change right off that bat, it's a good way to ease yourself into it. I do recommend doing some research and meal planning in advance before you start so you are prepared and not standing in front of the grocery store thinking wtf did I get into? Best of luck to you all.

  • Social pressure such as events at a restaurant but not limited to that, are one of the major drivers preventing people going vegan or especially some from staying vegan for a long time. Another is a myth that tastes can't be changed, which for almost everybody they can. True, it's a pain to switch, then you have your friends eating it, but admitting the difficulties I think can help vegans come up with solutions for these. I saw several 'why I quit keto' videos just cause I see a lot of 'why I quit vegan' videos previously, and same goes for both of them: the parties or events: cakes at birthday parties and such, and vacations. A vacation cruise is a big one; there's not enough vegan food if any on normal cruises I'm sure. But I'm whole food-plant based (not vegan) and have low social activity, live alone. Haven't eaten at a restaurant in 3 years. It has it's benefits and drawbacks, but a benefits is if I want to always eat healthy, it works out better. I wish u all the best on any of your food choices no matter what. I know omnivores can be just as healthy too if they are careful and more power to them if they can.

  • I’m vegan and I hope those of you who are not will consider a significant reduction in animal meat and dairy consumption. You don’t have to be 100% vegan if you find it too difficult to transition, but give it a try...at the end of the day, any significant reduction in dairy and meat will have a very positive effect on your health, contribute to slowing down our climate crisis and will contribute to a reduction in animal cruelty. Not to mention, reduce all of the horrible antibiotics and bacteria animal meat carries. Did you know 80% of antibiotics sold in the US are sold to industrial food processing plants? (Chickens, beef and pigs). Industrial farms in the US are horribly toxic. . Watch Cowspiracy, Forks Over Knives, What the Health, Earthlings and here on DE-visions, Vegan 2017” by Plant Based News. I set up a "vegan except for..." when I went vegan and very quickly found that the "except for..." didn't work for me after a week or so and have lived fully vegan since. But I get that others may need or feel fine with their exceptions. Sometimes is better than never, and if someone feels amazingly better without the meat or dairy they may also decide to cut it out completely. Go as vegan as possible for the planet, for the animals, for yourself, and for your health!!! 🌎🐷🐔🦐❤

  • I don't have any real problem with Reggie's mindset of "vegan unless (some infrequent exception case)", especially for someone just starting out. Unfortunately, people soon realize that it's more trouble than it's worth because just like in this clip everyone thinks that one non-vegan meal negates everything else and that they're the same as you while they eat meat, dairy and eggs at every meal. At least the person is doing something (a lot, actually)! Some people use the word "flexitarian" to describe someone who is basically vegan but doesn't want to deal with being called a hypocrite as they navigate a world with not enough vegan options (yet). I hate the label and am fine with people calling themselves vegan if they are trying to be vegan.

    • MrBrianokeeffe I live in sweden, and we claim to have the best treatment of animals. Meanwhile we allow minks and chinchilla fur farms, we have yearly videos showing terrible conditions on farms and in slaughter houses. So the high standards that you talk about is in comparison to other countries, not from animals perspective. Factory farming, low cost of animal products and ethical treatment is not comparable. If my name triggers you then that might explain why you feel defensive when it comes to veganism.

      veganvvarriorveganvvarriorVor 7 Monate
    • @veganvvarrior EU countries have the highest standards of animal welfare so shut up, your name is so annoying yikes

      MrBrianokeeffeMrBrianokeeffeVor 7 Monate
    • MrBrianokeeffe yes, every country abuses the animals they eat. Killing a animal when you have the moral and ethical capability to understand that they can feel fear, pain, joy and have a will to live is by definitely abusive behavior. And I would say that every country claims to treat the animals better than other countries, when in fact obviously that is not the case in the absolute majority of cases.

      veganvvarriorveganvvarriorVor 7 Monate
    • @MrBrianokeeffe I understand your point. Some people see being vegan as more of a moral virtue than a moral imperative. It's a common position to take. I think of it in terms of a trolley problem. Consider a train coming down a track headed for a cow, for example. It would be a moral virtue to risk your life to turn a switch to route the train to a different track to avoid the cow. However, that's not really the situation when you buy meat. It's more like a train is coming down a track headed for a block of tofu, and you breed an animal into existence, place it on another track, and then risk your life to turn the switch to route the train to hit the animal. I would argue it is a moral imperative to just eat the tofu.

      Erin KErin KVor 7 Monate
    • @Anton Deckman That's kind of how I started. First thing I kicked was cow's milk, then meat. I ate cheese and eggs for a while. Then I saw "Dairy Is Scary" on DE-visions, and then I couldn't eat cheese anymore. That video led me to another one of her videos that ruined eggs for me. I'll be honest. I never gave much thought to what my food costs. I'm pretty sure I spend less now. Some plant milks, vegan cheeses, and mock meats are expensive. But then so are the animal-based counterparts. The cheapest foods in the market are beans, rice, potatoes, pasta, bread, and other fruits and vegetables. For sure, whole food plant based is cheaper. It depends how much mock meat and vegan frozen pizza you buy. I think the impossible foods web site will show you where they sell it. Have you tried the beyond burger? Some people prefer it, and you can get that pretty much everywhere. I think they have it at fast casual places like Chili's.

      RhodyRhodyVor 7 Monate
    • You make a blanket statement when some people do it. I don't ever do that. Granted, I thought about it to help with the switch, but didn't. Now, I'm not truly vegan but whole food-plant based, and I eat what's called starches that are very satiating and filling. Do you like fresh, hot bread? It's allowed if whole grain, and I eat it as the primary calories some days, as well as whole wheat pasta. But there's a ton more. Black beans and whole wheat pasta with cayenne pepper a little salt and garlic powder. 1000 calories, super easy to cook. I am a happy camper after I just ate that. Good luck to you. I hope you try black beans and whole wheat pasta.

I tried vegetarian a few years back, and lasted for about a week because I wanted a burger. But since I was ignorant about the "meat flavor" , maybe I am ignorant about his too: Is being a vegan more expensive? I dunno if I've ever seen a poor vegan to be honest.

    • Well, the definition of vegan is no animal products or products where animals were purposely hurt or used, aka honey, leather shoes and so on. If you are mostly vegan, but make exceptions there is a word for that also, flexitarian. Me personally I don’t like it when people claim they are vegan and then eat cheese or meat sometimes, because it confuses others who don’t have any idea. That in return makes me have to be extra cautious since I don’t know if someone working on a restaurant or someone that have baked or whatever have the perception that vegans sometimes eat whatever.

      veganvvarriorveganvvarriorVor 7 Monate
    • @Ana Mm Sure, plants are alive. So is the flu virus. There is absolutely no scientific evidence of any kind that plants can feel pain or experience suffering. There is nothing that it is like to be a carrot. When you bite into an apple, there is no SOMEONE who is being harmed. That article says that plants detect certain vibrations and create chemicals in response. Many things respond to stimuli. A computer responds to stimuli. This is not evidence of consciousness. But let's assume you are correct that plants feel pain. You kill more plants to feed animals than you would kill if you ate the plants directly. It makes no sense to eat animals to spare plants. It leads to the opposite result.

      RhodyRhodyVor 7 Monate

    • @Stephen Mc Colgan and in most animal rights protests we only are trying to save lives of animals that get killed with no reason, same as if someone entered a kill shelter and rescued dogs.

      Abru PAbru PVor 4 Monate
    • @Stephen Mc Colgan have you ever been near to a farm or slaughterhouse? Lmao, you can hear the scream like 3 blocks away, I've seen animals killed right in front of my eyes and grew compassion and empathized with them, they feel the same way as a dog or cat, and most Asian people that eat them get hate about it, even tho it's the same as a cow or a chicken.

      Abru PAbru PVor 4 Monate
    • @a d radical vegans invade farms in "peaceful protests" these are often not only the farmers work plscd but also thier home and the amount of misinterpreted information that is spread about farmers torturing abusing or raping animals is huge which turns public perception against the farmer reducing consumption of the products and making it harder for them to survive in an already difficult industry to make money in

Non-vegan: "Don't you think it's self-righteous to criticize someone just because they're non-vegan?" Vegan: "Don't you think it's a bit selfish to torture and kill someone just because you like the taste of their flesh and cheese?" Non-vegan: "Veganism is a cult!" Vegan: "They claim veganism is a cult, and yet they live a life that requires daily animal sacrifices!"
