International Space Station Spacewalk, July 1, 2020

Tune in for our next International Space Station spacewalk!
On Wednesday, July 1, NASA astronauts Chris Cassidy and Robert Behnken will begin the 229th spacewalk in support of space station assembly, maintenance and upgrades. Astronauts Cassidy and Behnken will exit the station's Quest airlock to replace aging nickel-hydrogen batteries for one of two power channels on the far starboard truss with new lithium-ion batteries that arrived on a Japanese cargo spacecraft last month. The spacewalk will begin at around 7:35 a.m. EDT, with an expected duration of 7 hours.

  • I enjoyed seeing the work, and the tools in micro gravity, as well as how they had to move about, jest wish had coverage of them getting in and out of the E.V.A.'s. As well as them working the outer hatch and controls. This in part makes me want to make my own space worthy vehicle, was thinking a glider design for reentry at a extreamly slow speed and a rockoon for getting up there. Hea I have other thoughts. But love this video thanks NASA.

  • Why can we not see any stars? A basic camera can pick up stars but NASA's doesn't ? 🤔

    LifepotsLifepotsVor 4 Monate
    • To add: Try to take properly exposed Moon and stars picture at the same time. Either stars and over-exposed Moon, or properly exposed Moon and no stars.

      AlexagrigorieffAlexagrigorieffVor 4 Monate
    • Because to see stars it would require a few stops more exposure. If you set camera exposure to see stars, everything else would be overexposed to saturation.

  • H 1 . This is way too complicated for a simple change of a battery, even if in so called space. What if they needed to replace a solar array, or a gasket to the main power source. Come on folks. Have you ever even changed a tire.

    laz Iacofflaz IacoffVor 4 Monate
    • It’s almost as if many precautions need to be taken, as the entire life of the crew could be killed in failure. Changing a tire is easy. But changing a battery of a multi billion dollar space station? That is hard.

  • I loved the stream but what's really special is the job they're doing up there. One thing I don't understand is why we can't get decent 2020 technology images from the outside. They can stream or "live video" in 1080 from the inside with great sound, but nothing even close to our current technology (or from the 70s) from the outside. Is there anything that prevents consistent colour, lighting, ISO speeds, definition, and so on, to be filmed outside of the ISS? We could see Elon's car and "driver" in HD for weeks. It's sort of puzzling. Maybe they should film it with decent gear and then download it. This bothers me since every step of all these missions is so clearly shot.
