  • I disagree completely with the decision. The rule is for a driver that has exited (e..g. slid) off the track, is in control, and has at least a second to plan when and how to rejoin the race. Vettel was still racing and while he perhaps had some control, he was racing. He is allowed one move and that was to the right, and that blocked Ham. Too bad - that is racing. Vettel made a mistake and was able to save the car and finish first, so why should he be punished. Why not let them race? That is exactly why Formula One was fantastic racing in the past. This is why the ‘new F1’ is so boring and losing fans. I can no longer watch a race without a break since it puts me to sleep.

  • It's truly sad that F1 nowadays feeds on drama and controversies instead of on track battles and duels, where the two rivals would race for their lives spitting blood to attack and defend (i.e Villeneuve-Arnoux, Mansell-Senna) this is true racing, this is why people watch and come to the races. F1 since 2014 was always about safety and fuel efficiency, but OVERDONE to the max, these regulations and set of rules are what will cause F1's demise. F1 is probably the most boring form of motorsport you can watch today and it's quite something that WTCR can deliver more entertainment than F1 but like x10. The best option for F1 at this point is to cancel one or two seasons and get their act together start from a blank slate and focus their energy on making better rules and regulations, Can't be worse than what we have today...

    • The position he was at in the grass he couldn't have gone anywhere else. He had very little grip both in the grass and on the re-entry to the track because of the grass, so he had to turn wide. Had he gone to the inside coming out of the grass, it was likely not going to end well for Vettel, and I don't just mean him losing the race.

Go through the analysis clips by everyone from professional sportscasters to ex F1 drivers (Nico Rosberg) to amateurs: they are all showing boring pictures or even going through the trouble to make simulations. The analyses would be so much more interesting if they were allowed to use 10-15 sec clips. You could make this possible. You are winning the battle and losing the war...

    Ken RKen RVor 6 Tage
    • @Ardo El Diablo First of all "Pressure" means the car behind is forcing the car ahead to push harder and make a mistake. It has nothing at all to do with the air. Second, Vettel made a mistake, Hamilton did not. How can you argue that and how does stating a fact make me a fanboy? You are literally a Ferrari fanboy who wont even accept a fact that you LITERALLY saw with your own eyes. Little Ferrari fanboy...

Did Vettel, gain an advantage by making a mistake and leaving the race track? YES! Is the maximum penalty, 5 seconds? NO! Should he have just kept his head down and try to increase his lead? YES! Vettel lied that there was room on the opposite side of the track. Vettel lied that he didn't know where Lewis was. Did the pressure get to Vettel again? YES!

    Will ParryWill ParryVor 6 Tage
    • @Peter Jakubik agreed

      dernbuydernbuyVor 4 Tage
    • I think that the controversy is in the interpretation of that rule, i guess? _"Should a car leave the track the driver may re‐join, however, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any lasting advantage."_ And now the interpretation in the case of Vettel. Could he stop on that little piece of grass to avoid joining the truck once he was off? I think (and many other drivers, ex-drivers) not. He was too quick and the part was very short. He was a passenger in that moment. This rule should apply when driver is in full control of the car and choose to re-join in unsafe matter. Imagine that he would get an oversteer spin on the grass and re-join the track going backwards. Sould that rule apply in this case? Take a look at this crash Was that an unsafe re-joining the track according the F1 rule?

      Peter JakubikPeter JakubikVor 5 Tage
    • I suppose you have a point. Your argument is the same as race control. Where though could vettel go? Its also not good for the season and the sport in general that mercedes is running away with this season. In the interest of the sport vettel should have won. I suppose you could come back and say whats right is right. Only it isnt right. Most decisions in f1 are highly political anyway so politics of the sport should say keep the fight alive. People complain that f1 has lost its thrill. Well with decisions like that it will only be worse

  • If anyone from Formula 1 reads this: fuck off. Calling this sort of a penalty at a track such as Montreal with this much on the line is anti-climactic bullshit. If you don't want incidents such as this happening then don't race at a track where there is literally zero runoff. Vettel's options were to either put it in the wall or try to save it. By successfully saving the car he re-entered the track in an "unsafe" manner and got penalized for it, costing him his first win in almost a year. I'm not a Vettel or Ferrari fan but come on. Decisions like the ones the stewards made last weekend continue to hurt what should be a great sport and spectacle. Combine that with Mercedes' dominance over the past several years and F1 is going to lose viewers and therefore money if they haven't been doing so already.
