WOW!! JUST WOW!!! Am truly impressed!!!! And SURPRISED... I didn't know anyone tapped danced anymore. Gene Kelly, who helped to perfect tap dance as an art form, pales in comparison to Derek Hough. And kudos for dancing with a ladder without breaking your neck. Happy New Year! ❄☃️❄

I didn't like the dance. I mean let's be real. I think any good dancer can dance around and use objects to music. They could have put Val in there and everyone would have said he was a genius for doing the same thing Derek did. Reality is, our butt's can't do it, cause we don't dance 4 hours a day. I'm sure Nev could have pulled off somewhat of an okay dance, since he had dancing lessons up till college, when he got kicked out for fighting.

@Fing Book , Well the two white who were in the top two, did dance better than him and they shouldn't have been on the show. Johnny was a figure skater and they take dance lessons, so he shouldn't have been on there as well, and he was super pissed he got kicked off. At least Nelly and a couple other went in there without experience, too bad others ruined it.
@It's me! Stomp? Yeah, I've seen it. Was not into it that much. Will have to re-visit. I do not mind your frustration, since I did not watch the show this season. Only caught bits and pieces. As for Nelly, I've listened to so much rap in life and they act like know--it-alls and braggarts, who are better than everybody in everything. In fact, listening to people like him, whites can't dance, right? He looked like a steroid popping, beefy oaf out there. I don't think I watched even one dance by Nev. Yeah, certain people rub others the wrong way. I hear you.
@Fing Book , Only Derek? Do you have Instagram and follow the other dancers or watch other dance competitions? Derek dances what he wants to dance, because he is a judge. Have you heard of STOMP? Not Gene Kelly, but they involve props when they dance. This season was a total bust. Nev and Kaitlyn had dance experience coming on the show. Nev hid the fact he had YEARS of dancing under his belt. Nelly said himself, he wouldn't have done the show if he knew that the other contestants had dancing experience. I agree. It wasn't fair. Sorry for venting. I'm still pissed that the non-dancers celebs were booted off before the celebs that were dancers, (had dancing experience).
And yet, we do not see it very much. Why? At least he is trying. I kind of agree, but only in the sense that Gene Kelly was so good that no one has come close since. This is why I respect Derek is that, at least he is trying to display what Gene Kelly was doing, which is almost like a stuntman form of dance with props and using different platforms. Who else is giving the public this material? Only Derek.

Derek has been watching old Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly movies.
I truly believe he is the best dancing talent in our lifetime. Although they are cute, I don't want to see him making home videos with his girlfriend about daily life, or sitting talking and judging. The man is the most brilliant dancer and choreographer. Would someone please hire him to do something that involves dancing!!!! I want to see it!!!

The dancing is good but not original. Look at any Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly movies and you will see that Derek incorporated many of their ideas into this routine.
It's like looking at the reincarnation of Gene Kelly, it's astounding.

I have tears on my eyes, he is one of a kind. Choreography, props, his dancing: unique, imaginative, immaculate. What pure joy to watch this master of dance perform.
From the first moment I saw him on DWTS I knew he'd have a career like this. I predicted that he'd go on to direct/choreograph Broadway as well as see the revival of musical films. But years after seeing him in action I'll make a slight revision: I think he'll be a great director, period, not just musicals. He just has a really good feel for the VIBE....
