Comedian: Being Taught That Republicans Are Evil (Pt. 2) | Bridget Phetasy | COMEDY | Rubin Report

Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report talks to Bridget Phetasy (comedian) about self censorship, being raised to think Republicans were evil, big tech and much more. Bridget Phetasy is a writer and comedian. She has a comedy commentary show on DE-visions called “Dumpster Fire” and she is also the host of the “Walk-Ins Welcome” podcast. Her writing appears in a variety of places such as Tonic, the Federalist, MEL Magazine, and the Spectator. Bridget gives her thoughts on what she calls our “factory settings”. These being the beliefs or viewpoints that we are raised with. In her case she was raised to think that all Republicans were evil and only cared about money, whereas Democrats were the “good guys”. She shares her concerns about cancel culture and why certain comedians like Ricky Gervais and Dave Chapelle are cancel proof.

Growing up they shown me how Democrats are hypocrites who try to lie their way to the top through brainwashing people through the media. Democrates will only help the rich, Criminal's and illegals other wise they don't care about no one. Where Republicans tends to put Americans first no matter ur rich or poor, and ends up fixing the mess democrates tends to create.

  • Interesting hearing her talk about "factory settings." I kinda feel the same way. I was brought up in a leftist household. It was the air I breathed, but when I look back on it, it didn't have to be that way. So, I don't think of it as "factory settings." That sounds like, "How I was when I was born." The way I was brought up was what I would call "leftist values," believing that racism is wrong, that women should have the right to abortion, and birth control, that they deserve equal rights in the workplace, along with respect, with equal pay, and that government should be there to help people in need. Somehow, I just got it in my head that, like she said, Dems are for ordinary people, just trying to make it, and that they promote the government setting up nice facilities, like libraries and schools, that provide people with opportunities for making better lives for themselves. My conception of Repubs were that they were--not evil, but kinda weird--only interested in money, and protecting the rich, leaving crumbs for everyone else, and utterly uninterested in providing public facilities that ordinary people can use. Or, if they were interested, they were stingy about it, making crap facilities that didn't feel welcoming. The Dems definitely planted in my head the idea that Republicans were racist, though it was not KKK-style racism, with lynchings, and such, but almost a benign disregard for minorities. "They were insensitive" towards them, is the way I would've thought of it. The image that was created was that Repubs were cold-hearted towards minorities, and that this was tragic and sad. The news and entertainment, but particularly the news and documentaries played an important role in shaping these perceptions I had. I do remember feeling like Dems were the nice guys, generous, welcoming, and Republicans always felt stern, hard-nosed, stuffy, penny-pinching, and otherwise uninterested in ordinary people. This was reflected in my schooling. I can remember what I was taught in my high school social studies, that Pres.'s Coolidge and Hoover "did nothing," that Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt were these great reformers, and LBJ brought in the Great Society programs, which expanded welfare for the needy. When I took Poli. Sci. in college, the same image of lefties and conservatives was right in my textbook, showing leftists as the labor rights activist, speaking to ordinary people, and conservatives as the guy in the pinstriped suit, not really "down" where the people were, more concerned with business. Though, interestingly enough, college was really the first time I met conservatives face to face, and it was the first time I realized my conception of them was wrong. One thing I can credit my left-leaning teachers with was they encouraged all of us to listen to different perspectives, not just our own. They believed in the idea that our beliefs should be up for challenge. This was in the 1980s. Yeah, the Left was different then... It's just that not much that was run by the Left offered opportunities for challenging my own beliefs! The one big exception was when I went to college.

  • It appeared that at 9:57 she was expecting someone to clap and cheer for her. It felt awkward. I am happy that she is sober, but for David Rubin, he expects people to be sober. Being sober is normal, not a reason for applause. If she had said that on "The View", she would have been greeted with cheers and clapping, because for leftist, being an alcoholic is common.

  • I had no idea that my parents where Republicans until I asked them because I volunteered to help man the desk at the election and they asked for my political affiliation. My mother was like “Republican all the way!” So I was like whatever, but thence forth I started paying attention more and realized that all of the people that I liked to listen to and agreed with like Ben Shapiro, Steven crowder, and Jordan Peterson where Republicans. I started to wonder how anyone could call these people racist and sexist and how so many people could think the things they do. Sometimes there are people who make sense and can rationalize there argument in a way that make sense, but for me, it’s hard to believe that most people on the left could have had an objective starting point to formulate their opinions.

  • Growing up my family was mostly apolitical except for one thing I remember. It was this simple statement, "Republicans are for the rich man and Democrats are for the working man". I was politically ignorant until I reached 26. I looked at the data and learned that Democrats are very good wordsmiths. I also learned that they are for power and use class warfare, group warfare, and sex warfare to obtain it. I learned that republicans are for the individual, personal freedom, equal opportunity, and self reliance. This puts Republicans at a disadvantage because they are competing against the party of Santa Claus, victimhood, and manufactured jealousy. This seemed to work well for a long time until they made it blatantly clear that this is their game plan. Trump is showing that there is a better way.

And alot of conversations cant occur because they will say "oh you havent lived it, so you cant talk about it". That's a lazy and sad excuse in my opinion on why we cant have conversations, because by that same logic they cant complain about the middle or upper classes or all the money people make because they havent experienced it.

  • How the left ever got the reputation of tolerance is a mystery. I suspect it has something to do with the relatively new definition of the word "tolerance". Tolerance used to mean allowing others the right to be wrong. It was never (at least until recently) a term that meant you accept all choices as equally good and moral. One could have their convictions and heartfelt beliefs and tolerance meant one did not force others to agree. These days the term has been hijacked. All ideas and behaviors are equally good and moral.... unless you think some things better than others, then you are intolerant... and the only thing that should not be tolerated is intolerance. It really is a goofy circle jerk.

  • Those weren't my "default" setting because I wasn't born in the US. I was an immigrant who had to come here legally from the pacific and completely became wary of the Demonrat and the "left" who hijacked what liberalism actually means. True Liberalism works with conservatism. Conservatism is the view of preserving the liberal institutions created by the Constitution and the "left" and Demonrats have been continuously trying to destroy that true liberalism with their evil, anti freedom, policies and beliefs. People in the US have been brought up to believe the lie (it's a typical tactic of the totalitarians and tyrants and Communists, etc to twist the history) that the parties switched when it didn't. Just look at it. The laws pushed in the US is recorded and archived. Not a single moment has the people who created the policies and core beliefs has ever changed. The left and the Democrats is still the group of slavery and evil while the Repubs for the most part has been trying to reduce government reliance so that people can be free. You can clearly see this on all the laws on the US ever passed.
