  • In my opinion, this has been a problem I’ve had with MLB umpires for years. They always call timeout after an out on the infield and I don’t understand why. I umpire Little League and our guidelines are to not call time out until the pitcher has received the ball, returned to the pitchers plate, and the catcher is in the catcher’s box. If a player or coach tries to call timeout before that, we don’t award it. Someone needs to explain to me what the guidelines are for MLB because I truly feel like they’re killing the play before it ends

  • That was a clean slide which should have also resulted in a run scored and you could have been looking at a completely different call game, but you know who cares. Right?

  • Awe your sounding like a dodger hater now! What's not to get? When a player goes down looking injured on the play other players can call time out once the play was over and it clearly was over. As they do in all sports not just baseball. It was a good call and no freebies given.

  • Seriously the runner is committed home AND THEN the ump calls time! I don’t think these guys could call a T-ball game.

    Ghost9oh7Ghost9oh7Vor 19 Tage
  • The difference between an outfielder being down and an infielder is once the ball is in the infield or an infielder has it you can call timeout. At the point Jansen called timeout no runners were actively running towards the next base with the ball in the infield so he can call timeout.

    Kyle WoodringKyle WoodringVor 19 Tage
  • Play was not consummated! No way time out should be allowed!!

Frank Del PlatoFrank Del PlatoVor 19 Tage
  • The ump screwed the play up how the hell can he call time when the ball is in play mlb admitted that they fucked up

    Joe BlowJoe BlowVor 19 Tage
  • Gardner is safe, the slide was clean, and although Janssen is not allowed to call time, he IS allowed to appeal to the UMPIRE to call time because his teammate is hurt. The umpire granted time, Torres should and DID return to third, and play should have resumed with the bases loaded.

    Rick RoseRick RoseVor 19 Tage
  • Yeah, I gotta say that if Gleyber leaves for home 2 seconds earlier, they don't take the run away. This play is borderline but I have to say that it is reasonably within the confines of how plays are handled when a pitcher gets hit. Once the initial play is done, the play is immediately called dead and the player is attended to.

  • I know I'm late, but in terms of the time call. Jansen had every right to call time since the ball was controlled by a player and was in the infield. Also, when he called time, the guy on 3rd hadn't yet broke for home, or was just starting too, so if the ump thought he called it before the guy started home, then that's why it would be granted. But in all honesty, I just dont think the home plate ump realized the guy was heading home. That's the only thing that's really questionable here.

  • Trump!!!

  • I watched this play happen... the home plate umpire called time when Torres was half way to home plate... further proves MLB umpires are shit, and don't know the rules entirely. I don't recall if Muncy came out... but if the play is automatically dead on the chance of an injured player... he should be required to come out for the rest of the game. Giants fan for the record...
