  • Lenovo is supposedly bringing Linux support, that's big news. For Ubuntu LTS and RHEL across a wide range of products. An OEM supported Linux AMD machine with powerful hardware is what I really want.

  • There are some issues that basically no reviewers mention: 1) coil whine that weirldy stops only when you turn on the keyboard backlight (which is SHIT on the silver model btw) 2) the fans are ALWAYS ON (no matter the profile) unless you manually set a fanless mode with a clunky hack that some dude has on his github 3) the fingerprint scanner is basically non-functional 4) the magnesium shell feels (to me at least) exactly like plastic so don't get too hyped by this video 5) the response time of the screen is terrible so it won't feel as smooth as a normal 120hz screen would (ghosting and some more ghosting) 6) when using an external monitor the laptop should really be open otherwise the heat gets blasted directly into the screen which is bad 7) stuck with a limited amount of RAM because of the soldered DIMM 8) the ROG armoury app which controls a lot of stuff is buggy and slow 9) the ANIME display (for models that have it) is quirky at best and straight up non-functional at worst 10) linux support is currently non-existent due to the nvidia gpi (but this will actually improve)

    • @Ra awesome the anime display is a stupid marketing name for the bunch of led's on the lid that are supposedly configurable with the armoury crate app (works maybe 10% of the time for me), honestly it's a completely useless feature

  • Intel is in trouble, usualy when they are launching a CPU that needs and "AZ-5" button they usualy push some respectable leads and results. But AMD really pushes hard now without breaking their back.. i think they finaly worked out their issues in the larger scheme of things. 9700k was a panic move to win out in games, but that was the last bastion for them and they didnt even pull that much ahead, i dont see how they will compete in having an affordable product on top of new LGA1200 (why new socket?), while trying to counter an ongoing socket that just spits out equal power. Furthermore when AMD do switch from 7nm to 5nm and DDR5 on AM5 or w/e its gonna be called, its going to be a nasty stab into Intel in just about every corner of any market, common office use, servers, gaming enthusiasts, studios of any sort. Theyve literally done it now. If AMD truely fixates on Radeon drivers they will have Nvidia in the dirt in the same swipe. How the times has changed !

  • I can't see that the 4900HS is that much better than the 4800HS. Is it worth the extra £100-£200? Also, should I get the 1080p 120Hz or 1440p 60Hz?

    Noor AbdullatifNoor AbdullatifVor 7 Tage
    • @Ryan Kim some builds are being released later but (at least in the UK) the 4800HS is/will be available with the 2060 and I'm wondering if the 4900HS is really that much better. The thing is I'm not much of a gamer these days - though I'd like the capability and the option. I'm probably even less likely to play online games except with my close family. Still it's worth going for the lower resolution screen?

      Noor AbdullatifNoor AbdullatifVor 7 Tage
    • I’d recommend the 120 hz unless you really want the anime matrix thing which I’m pretty sure only comes with the 1440 p 60 hz panel. Either way you will have the sluggish response time but some people care for it while some people don’t seem to notice it. And I think the 4900hs comes with the rtx 2060 while the 4800hs only comes with the 1660 ti

It was a difficult decision because I really need the widescreen monitor for work but can't afford to buy both a laptop and a PC build.
